FYI---No formal homework first week of school.
Dear Parents,
The above link will take you to a site which will give you insight to the homework procedures I implement in our classroom.
Your child will record their homework assignment in their S.P.I.N. Journal each day in class. There will be 2 assignments each week: read and record, practice spelling words.
Read and Record on Weekly Reading Journal
Each school night, Monday through Thursday, I ask that your child enjoys a book (hands-on or online) for at least 5 minutes. Your child can read to others, themselves or have someone read to them. All I ask is that each night your child fills in the correct row on their Weekly Reading Log which is glued into their S.P.I.N. Journal. Please do not fill it in for them. This is an opportunity to practice their handwriting in an authintic setting. Also, students will earn Dunham Dollars for being responsible by filling in their own reading log correctly, neatly and on time. If your child misplaces their Weekly Reading Log, there is a master copy on this site that you can print by downloading to your device.
Practice Spelling
Each week, students will copy the spelling words into their S.P.I.N Journal. Letters written in another color are the patterns needed to be mastered. There will also be Dolch sight words written only in pencil. I am asking that students practice these spelling words using the 75 Ways to Practice Spelling Words. They do not turn in anything. If you need supplies, check with me first. I will share what I have. All spelling words can be found on the SPELLING WORDS page in this site.
Please remember, DO NOT HAVE YOUR CHILD WRITE THE WORDS OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
At times, there may be worksheets or at home projects assigned. Your child will write these assignments in the S.P.I.N Journal and/or I will email you.
As always, if you have any questions/comments/concerns, please contact me.
